What is NBT (Net billing tariff)?

PG&E’s Net Energy Metering (NEM) programs known as NEM 2.0 and NEM have been replaced by the Net billing tariff.

PG&E’s NET BILLING TARIFF is the 1st step towards energy independence and electric freedom. NBT is Net Billing Tariff for solar customers in California. NBT determines compensation rates for electricity generated by solar panels and then exported back to the grid. The Net Billing Tariff (NBT), also commonly referred to as NEM 3.

Customers can maximize their earning by storing the excess energy in their battery during less valuable time periods and then exporting the stored energy back to the grid during high-value hours.

Net Billing Tariff Rates

NBT Rates

Net Billing Tariff rates are based on the value determined by the export compensation chart, seen here. To prevent customers from being surprised by a large annual bill, payment for consumption charges will be due monthly. In months when customers have excess solar electricity that they have sent back to the grid, resulting in bill credits, the credits will roll over to following months.

Net Billing Tariff rates are based on the value determined by the ACC for the electricity at the time in which the electricity is exported back to the grid. Customers consumption rates from the grid, will be offset by the credits they earn by the electricity they send back to the grid.
