Why do you need a post-install solar bill review?

After your solar installation, reviewing your first few utility bills is essential. A post-install bill review helps you avoid surprises from PG&E and ensures that your solar system is operating as expected. Billing errors or misunderstandings about solar credits can lead to unexpected charges or missed savings. By addressing these issues early, a review can even reveal if PG&E owes you money.

A recent example involves Krishna in Livermore, a long-time client & multi-referrer of TSBR. After receiving his latest PG&E bill, he was surprised to see a balance of $1,000, especially given the significant savings he had expected from his solar investments. Fortunately, we had invited him for his yearly complimentary review.

We carefully reviewed the bill, focusing on the solar credits and charges. Upon investigation, we discovered that PG&E had not been applying his solar credits for the most recent couple of months. Instead of owing money as his recent PG&E statements suggested, Krishna was actually due a credit of over $1,000. 

Once we confirmed the mistake, we contacted PG&E with Krishna to resolve the issue. The necessary adjustment was made, and Krishna was promised to receive the correct bill adjustment. This situation underscores the importance of conducting a post-install bill review. By reviewing the bill, we were able to identify the error and ensure that Krishna wasn’t overcharged, helping him keep his solar investment on track and avoid unnecessary payments. Taking the proactive step of reviewing your utility bills can save you time, money, and prevent potential issues down the road.
